Counting Example

 

1. Create the blue bar with the numbers similiar to below.

2. Select both the bar and the numbers and convert to a symbol. (Be sure you select the numbers)

3. Name this layer Numbers

4. Create a new layer, above the numbers layer and call it Mask

The mask layer must always be the layer above the object you wish to mask

5. In frame 1 of the Mask layer, create the green box similar to below (you can use any colour you wish).
It should cover the number one

 

6. Create keyframes for both layers in about frame 24. (at 12 fps this will play in 2 seconds)

7. Select frame 24 of the numbers layer.
move the blue bar with numbers to the left so that only the 9 is covered . ( If you hold down SHIFT while moving the symbol it moves in a straight line)

 

8. Create a motion tween for the numbers
Try dragging the play head to see how the blue bar moves

 

9. Right click on the Mask layer, and choose Mask from the menu

          

 

10. Test the movie

 

Note: if you need to make modifications you must Unlock the layers by clicking on the locks
