Part C Researching Wireless Routers & Access Points
There is a wide variety of manufactures of wireless access points and routers. Each manufacturer has numerous models of routers and features; they also have different default IP addresses, usernames and password to administer the device.
For each the manufactures listed to the right,
Find one wireless router/access point then find the following information:
- Model
- Default: Admin IP, Username, Password
- Wireless standards (eg. 802.11n)
- Number of ports, types and speed
- Wireless security (eg. WEP, WPA)

Part D Planning a Wireless Setup
You have been asked to help someone setup a wireless network in their home.
They have a new laptop computer, a desktop computer and an older laptop (no built in WiFi)
They also have high speed internet which is currently connected only to the desktop computer.
Your task is to develop
- a shopping list of what hardware is needed, two lists. (be specific for what they should purchase)
- one should be a budget price, bare minimum
- the other top of line, $ is not a problem
- a diagram of how things will connect, be specific
- a description of how to setup/connect the equipment
- recommendations of how to configure the hardware/software to help protect their privacy on the wireless network
